CONSULTATIONS WITH KEY STAKEHOLDERS IN THE TPA REVIEW
The review of the competition provisions of the Trade Practices Act 1974 has now received in excess of 100 written submissions from a wide variety of stakeholders, including the ACCC, peak industry bodies, consumer groups, large and small businesses, other organisations and individuals. Consideration is being given to the issues outlined in these submissions. A number of submissions have been foreshadowed by other stakeholders and will be provided to the TPA Review Committee in the next few weeks.
Consistent with its terms of reference the Committee will shortly undertake a series of informal meetings with key interest groups and affected parties. As the time available to the Committee is limited, the Committee will be meeting with those stakeholders who the Committee feels will be able to assist its deliberations by providing some further information about the issues raised in their submissions. These will include the major industry bodies and a range of companies that have made submissions.
The Secretariat to the Committee is contacting stakeholders to organise individual meetings with the Committee. Enquiries concerning these meetings can be directed to the Secretariat by telephoning (02) 6263 3900.
The Committee is chaired by Sir Daryl Dawson AC KBE CB. Members of the Committee are Ms Jillian Segal and Mr Curt Rendall. The Committee is scheduled to report by the end of November 2002. Further information about the review and the public submissions made to the Committee can be obtained from the review website: firstname.lastname@example.org
